Computer Studies

COMPUTER WEB MASTER
Students will learn how to write and create their own personal web page. Students will use the computer to write stories, poems, imaginative narratives, and personal narratives on a variety of topics for their web page projects. The web pages will be posted to Washington's Web site once peers and the instructor review them. Dialogue will be created during the review process to make sure that high quality web pages will be posted on the Internet. Students will learn how to inset photos, graphics, and drawings into their web pages.
Students will work on a "team" web page in a group for their first project until they feel more comfortable working with HTML, then they will work on a second web page individually as their second project due for this course. Both pages will be edited and posted to the Internet.

ROBOLAB
We interact with robots every day without even realizing it. They are in our homes, our schools, our stores, our cars…they are everywhere we go. Robots answer our telephone, open doors for us, turn on lights, make sure we are warm or cool enough, and even make sure we do not miss our favorite TV shows. Often these robots do not look anything like those portrayed in movies and books, so we don’t realize that they are, indeed, robots. In this course, student will investigate robots around us, what goes into making a robot, the behavior of robots, reliability, and discover the possibilities of present and future robots through hands-on activities.

SEARCH AND RESEARCH
Databases can be scary, but they don’t have to be! This course takes the mystery out of using a database and puts the power of a database into action. Who would want to memorize the encyclopedia or any other collection of information? No one! Students will learn why we use a database to organize and retrieve information and how to create and manipulate a database. Lose your fear of databases and come search and research a world of data.
