MEDIA MASTERS: THE TRUTH ABOUT ADVERTISING AG
Can you believe everything you see in those commercials? We live in a sea
of advertising. It’s everywhere we look. Students in this elective will
have a chance to learn about persuasive techniques and judge the validity
of products and services in an effort to become independent, well-informed
consumers.
SCHOLASTIC PURSUIT AG
SCHOLASTIC PURSUIT reinforces the knowledge students have acquired throughout
the elementary grades. Emphasis is placed on research, questioning, and listening
skills. Students gather information to compete among themselves in mini academic
contests. A team is finally chosen from this class to compete in a system
wide academic tournament.
SCHOOL NEWS TODAY
The “School News Today” elective’s primary objective is the presentation
of important school information and events. Students who participate in this
elective will study concepts of presentation: speaking, diction, personality,
celebrity, marketing, branding and advertising. Research, writing, editing
and reporting as well as incorporating new technologies to produce each program,
are prime focus areas. “School News Today” will showcase school activities,
school events, students, teachers, and curriculum using a variety of methods.
Students will create and produce a daily program using digital video cameras,
digital still cameras, scanners, switchers, and computers. The daily program
will consist of live broadcasts, taped interviews, puppetry, taped skits,
and school “commercials”. Creativity and the production of original material
is encouraged. Ethics and copyright rules will be discussed and followed.
Students will learn to use different software programs, such as PowerPoint,
iMovie, MS Word, Sound Edit, and others, to produce special effects. Students
in this elective will interact with students from other electives such as
Graphic Arts Elective and the WEB Design elective.
SHUTTER BUG
Students will learn the basics of photography through projects and experiences
designed to help them discover how a camera works. They will also learn
how to produce black and white photographs in a dark room. Projects will
include developing negatives, making prints and learning to use a 35mm camera.
