Physical Education/Health
BEGINNING GYMNASTICS
This course is designed for the student who has an interest in investigating
and developing basic gymnastic tumbling and apparatus skills. Students will
have the opportunity to learn rolls, balances, stands and stunts on mats,
balance beam, even bars, and vaulting horse. They will gradually improve
in individual balance, flexibility, coordination, strength, and endurance.
Safety and spotting techniques will be especially emphasized.
INTERMEDIATE GYMNASTICS
As a continuation, this course is designed for the student who has successfully
completed BEGINNING GYMNASTICS. After a brief review of basic skills, spotting,
and safety, students will concentrate on individually refining technique and
will learn more difficult mat and apparatus skills. The teacher will introduce
simple combinations and routines. Depending on individual talent, students
may create simple routines for class presentation.
LIFETIME SPORTS I
This course is designed for the student who is interested in investigating
and developing skills in a variety of lifetime sport activities. Students
will learn the basic skills, rules and regulations, game play and strategies,
and care of equipment associated with each sport. Individual and dual sports
to be covered in this course will include archery, golf, and badminton.
LIFETIME SPORTS II
This course is designed for the student who is interested in investigating
and developing skills in a variety of lifetime sport activities. Students
will learn the basic skills, rules and regulations, game play and strategies,
and care of equipment associated with each sport. Individual and dual sports
to be covered in this course will include bowling, track and field, and tennis.
RACKET SPORTS
This course is designed for the student who is interested in investigating
and developing skills in a variety of racket sports. Emphasis will be placed
on skills, drills, and rules, care of equipment, lead-up activities, and
game situations. Racket sports to be covered in this course should include
table
tennis, badminton, racket ball, and tennis depending on facilities and
availability of equipment.
TEAM SPORTS I
This course is designed for the student who is interested in investigating
and developing skills in a variety of team sports. Emphasis will be placed
on skills, drills, and rules, care of equipment, lead-up activities, and game
situations. Good sportsmanship and team cooperation will be stressed. Team
sports to be covered in this course will include kickball, soccer, and basketball.
TEAM SPORTS II
This course is designed for the student who is interested in investigating
and developing skills in a variety of team sports. Emphasis will be placed
on skills, drills, and rules, care of equipment, lead-up activities, and game
situations. Good sportsmanship and team cooperation will be stressed. Team
sports to be covered in this course will include volleyball, speedball, and
softball.
Health
SHAPING UP
Who’s in control of having a healthy body? Aerobic exercises and nutritional
education will enhance the awareness of what food and exercise can do for
the body. Emphasis will be on weight control and acceptance of responsibility
for one's self.
