K-2 Electives
Physical Education and Health
BASIC GYMNASTICS
This course provides an introduction to the various components of gymnastics.
Students will learn a variety of rolls, positions, and stunts on the mats,
balance beam, vaulting horse, and even/uneven parallel bars. All movements
will be taught with safety and spotting. The focus will be to improve balance,
coordination, strength, and flexibility.
LIFETIME SPORTS
Students will participate in indoor and outdoor education movement activities.
The basic skills of balance and coordination, as well as developmental exercises
will be emphasized in lead up games for such lifetime recreational sports
such as tennis, badminton, bowling, golf, and horseshoes.
READY, SET, MOVE
This is a course designed for Kindergartners to strengthen gross motor
skills by using large muscle groups. The activities will include imitating
body movements, identifying and using body parts, and manipulating their bodies
in space.
SPORTS ARENA
For the young athlete who enjoys team sports, this course will emphasize
basic skill development which is essential to succeeding in sports. The importance
of physical fitness, good sportsmanship, and working as a team will be stressed
as students participate in drills and pre-game situations.
