- Books and Beyond
This year students in kindergarten and first grade are participating in a new reading incentive program called Books and Beyond. This year’s theme is a continuation of the public library and summer reading program’s "Get a Clue."- How does it work?
Students keep up with their reading on a reading log, turn it in when it’s full, and start a new one. With each sheet they turn in, they can watch as their progress is charted on a beautiful new bulletin board in our Media Center. The students’ pictures will be displayed as they reach 10 sheets, and other incentives will be given along the way. The program allows each student to work at his or her own individual pace and recognizes each child’s effort. At the end of the year, all K-1 students will receive a certificate for participation.
- What counts?
Students may include books they’ve read on their own as well as books read to them (by parents, other family members, friends, teachers, and reading buddies, too)! Book length will vary depending on your child’s reading level. If your child is reading chapter books, use the guideline of 25 pages to represent one book, and record each portion on a separate line. Periodicals such as Your Big Backyard count as well.
- Where does my child get a new reading log?
Volunteers send teachers a blank log for every completed log received. Teachers may also print new logs, and parents may download them by clicking here.
(This is a pdf file. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer to access the log. Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free program that can be downloaded here.)
- How do I volunteer to help with this program?
Volunteers are still needed for this program. Teachers turn in student logs every Thursday. We need volunteers at school each week between Thursday afternoon and Monday morning to file the logs, record each student’s progress, distribute incentives, and move the students markers on the bulletin board in the Media Center. This process should take an hour or less. Volunteers typically process more than one classroom and alternate weeks with another volunteer. Frequency of scheduling is flexible depending on the number of volunteers and their availability. Please contact Jennifer Wakeford at 387-8024 or by using the form below if you’d like to help.
- Student Progress
Individual Student progress will be charted in the Media Center. We will not identify indivual students on the internet, however we may post pictures of the bulletin board or post some class results as the program gets underway.

- Book Adventure
- General Information
Second through fifth grade students are participating in "Book Adventure" this year. Book Adventure is an online reading program offered by Sylvan. Much like our former Accelerated Reader program, the Book Adventure program allows students to read books, take quizzes and earn points. The points earned on Book Adventure may be redeemed for Book Adventure's sponsors' prizes. All such redemptions should be done by August 1 of each year, as we will be setting students' points back to 0 at the beginning of each new school year. Points will also be used for school incentives.
