Allynna Stone Math and Science Courtyard
History of our Courtyard:
During the 2001-2002 school year, the PTA seized upon the opportunity that Wake County was constructing a patio outside our new cafeteria, and took upon itself the task of upgrading that simple patio into a Math and Science Courtyard. We raised over $25,000 and turned concrete and benches into an inviting relaxing atmosphere while incorporating several educational and historical elements. We installed a human sized chessboard, a sundial, animal footprints, a yardstick, and permanent gardens and areas for classrooms to plant annual gardens.
In 2002-2003 that courtyard was further embellished with colorful murals, a painted fence, a water garden, planters, and an indoor storage area for curriculum materials all teachers may share for lessons in the courtyard.
On May 1, 2003 the Math and Science Courtyard was dedicated to our beloved retiring principal Allynna Stone, and named in her honor.
Thank you to a wonderful group of volunteers who have made the courtyard more stunning, inviting, and educationally useful than ever before.
