Timeline 1864- Washington School built in Raleigh by the American Missionary School of NYC. 1923-
Ground breaks on Washington Grade and High School. Raleigh's first
publically funded High School for
African American children. 1950-
Washington celabrates a birthday in the new gym. 1978
- 1,000 Washington alumni attend a reunion and begin an active partnership
with the new Washington. In
2003 the school celebrates its 80th birthday by forming an 80
on the front hill. |
This is the 1935 championship football team of the S.H.S.A.A. league. At that time Washington was an all black school. Sports Washington also played softball, basketball, and ran track.

Washington placed first in the S.H.S.A.A. Washington also placed fifth in basketball. Our softball team won the championship and so did our basketball team. |
