What Are Word Battles?

Word Battles are a competition between two fourth grade classes that challenge each others writing abilities. The students write descriptive paragraphs about a prompt. After everybody finishes writing through the time period the teachers put students papers in two stacks and they shuffle them. Then they put half of them in one stack and the other half in another stack. They take the ones on the top of the pile at that time and read them aloud. Once they are done they have everyone close their eyes and have a private vote. the students do not know if the paper is their classes or the other classes. After their private vote they put the points up for which class won the vote.

How You Challenge Other Classes

An example would be Grant's Gladiators challenge Ash's Army. Ash's Army would either accept or decline. If they decline, the Gladiators go back to their classroom. If they accept, the battle goes ON!image of cival war
